June 2010 - Public Great Amazing Race
Register now!
Uplift Events is proud to present Melbourne with the public Great Amazing Race. This event will be a hybrid of the popular Melbourne Amazing Race ® and the Great Melbourne Pursuit. Teams of 2 race around Melbourne and the inner suburbs visiting famous landmarks and locations while completing a variety of thrilling activities along the way. The event will again be supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation, so get your registrations in early to avoid missing out on this popular and unique urban adventure race. Even if you have competed before, gather your partner, work colleague or friend and be blown away with what we have installed for this race.

Participants can also raise funds for the event and have family, friends and colleagues sponsor them. The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation have partnered with Everyday Hero to provide an online fundraising webpage for each participant. Whether competing or not, you can build your own 'Hero' page and email your unique link to family, friends and colleagues to help support the cause by making a donation for the event. So get a head start and be part of the 'Great Amazing Race' and create an online fundraising page today. The individual who raises the most funds will be publicly recognised in the closing presentation and awarded a prize.

To assist with fundraising efforts, each team that manages to raise $20 through Everyday Hero (cut off at 12pm, 27th August 2010) will receive a Collect Stage Pass, which will allow them to skip a Collect Stage on the day of the event.

Objectives
To have a fun team day for the end of the financial year.

Result
Five enthusiastic teams tackled the 2 hour Great Melbourne Pursuit with gusto. With three challenge stages, three pursuit stages and two collect stages to complete, teams had to plan carefully to ensure that they would be able to complete all stages within the 2 hours. Showing great communication and teamwork at the mental challenges, Team Red completed all the stages in the quickest time to be declared the winners.

Bankwest Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Bankwest (Bank of Western Australia) is a full service bank offering Personal Banking and Business Banking solutions for the financial needs for all Australians.

Objectives
A surprise team building event to end off a work shop.

Result
Starting from the office, 10 teams were given their first clue as they all embarked on their Melbourne Amazing Race ®. Not knowing what to expect, everyone got into the competitive spirit as they deciphered clues and tackled many of the fun and mental challenges thrown at them. With a support crew greeting the teams with drinks and food at most checkpoints, there was no excuse for any of the teams to be low on energy! Finishing up with a Netball Challenge, Team Black dominated the event to win it well ahead of all the other teams.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  PricewaterhouseCoopers provides industry-focused assurance, tax and advisory services for public and private clients in: Corporate Accountability, Risk Management, Structuring and Mergers and Acquisitions and Performance and Process Improvement.

Objectives
A fun team event for a small group.

Result
Starting just outside their office, the teams from PricewaterhouseCoopers were taken all over the Melbourne CBD for their Melbourne Amazing Race ®. Challenges at Batman Park and Docklands Park proved decisive in determining who would be leading after the first leg, with one team going the wrong way before realising. The second leg of the race was a tight fought battle with all teams showing excellent team work and problem solving in the tangrams and combination lock challenges. In the end, Team Red and Team Yellow came equal first when they both stepped on the finish mat at the same time.

WISE Employment City Survivor
  WISE Employment is a not-for-profit community service organisation, committed to assisting people with a disability and disadvantaged members of the community through employment and support services.

Objectives
A team building event for team building, promote communication and to get to know each other.

Result
A hilarious City Survivor with one team doing the splits as part of the Tribe chant challenge. All teams were extremely competitive and competed like they were actually on the TV show. Alliances were formed and broken and strategies were put in place to deny particular teams from doing well in particular challenges. Even the Immunity Idol suffered by being stolen and then returned after the offending team was penalised. Overall great fun was had by all with many commenting that "those who think team building is a waste of time are totally wrong!"

Accenture Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company helping clients become high-performance businesses and governments.

Objectives
A fun team building event to reward their staff for the end of financial year working on a particular client project.

Result
With approximately 150 people competing in this huge event, all the teams lined up in their costumes just before dusk to embark on a Melbourne Amazing Race ® around Melbourne. Although it was cold, everyone soon warmed up as they visited each of the checkpoints and were faced with many challenges that got everyone working together and communicating. With a majority of racing taking place in the dark, several teams found it difficult to navigate the Melbourne streets at night. Finishing at the Duke of Kent, all the teams rushed back for presentations and a well deserved drink.

Caterpillar Logistics Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Since its inception over 80 years ago, Caterpillar has grown to be the world's largest maker of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines.

Objectives
A team building event for all team members from the various states to come together.

Result
Despite only 2 teams participating in the Melbourne Amazing Race ®, both teams showed great enthusiasm and a never give up atttitude throughout the entire race. With visits to the Eureka Tower Skydeck, Queen Victoria Market and Federation Square included in the race package, there was no better way to have fun and sight see at the same time. Leading for the majority of the race and showing slightly better teamwork in most of the challenges, Team Blue won the Melbourne Amazing Race ® just ahead of the other team.

Anaconda Adventure Race Lorne
  The Anaconda Adventure Race at Lorne is a spectacular off-road adventure event in and around the picturesque township of Lorne on the Great Ocean Road in the Otway ranges - if you want an adventure you'll never forget then this is just the ticket.

Take part in this spectacular event you will swim around the iconic Lorne Pier and across the crystal clear Loutit Bay to the claps and cheers of thousands of spectators, you will paddle along the cliffs and golden beaches flanking the Great Ocean Road whilst surfing friendly southern ocean swells, you will run through rainforests, under massive tree ferns past mighty waterfalls and finally you will mountain bike to the top of the Otways and then come flying back down again on a cranking descent with a smile from ear to ear.

With adventures this genuine it is no great surprise that doing 'The Anaconda' has become a bit of an institution throughout Victoria and the Surf Coast with up to 1200 competitors putting themselves on the line for sake of a bit of fun - now it's your turn.

FCm Travel Solutions Paparazzi
  FCm Travel Solutions provide an exceptional blend of corporate travel and expense management solutions.

Objectives
A fun team building event for participants mostly from interstate to see parts of Melbourne.

Result
Teams embraced the Paparazzi event with enthusiasm. Armed with a map, camera and assignment sheet, teams took to the streets of Melbourne and had to use plenty of creativity to take photos that matched a series of headlines and clues. Some teams made their way to locations such as the MCG, City Square, Immigration Museum and Chinatown to obtains their photos; with one team even visiting a tattoo parlour. Another team had the fortunate opportunity of taking a photo with Delta Goodrem and Brian McFadden. Overall a great time was had by all teams with plenty of photos to share and talk about.

Department of Justice Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  The Department of Justice encompasses police; courts; prisons; emergency services; regulation of gaming, racing, liquor licensing and trade measurement; and victims' services.

Objectives
A team building event for two newly merged IT groups to get to know each other better.

Result
The fourteen teams started early at Parliament Gardens and were soon on their way visiting locations such as Queen Victoria Market, Ed Hardy Bowling, City Square and Federation Square. Through the challenges involving construction, communication, teamwork, problem solving and following instructions, all teams showed a willingness to work together to win. In the end, team Grey made the right decision at the last challenge to take the lead and win the Melbourne Amazing Race ®.

Simplot Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Simplot Australia delivers nutritious food products and is responsible for some of Australia’s favourite food brands including Edgell, Chiko, I&J, Birds Eye, Harvest and Leggo’s.

Objectives
Having done 2 events in the past, the team from Simplot were looking for a fun but different Melbourne Amazing Race ® as a day out of the office.

Result
A super quick group raced through the streets of Melbourne and tackled all the challenges presented to them with gusto. Having competed before in the Melbourne Amazing Race ® greatly benefited many of the teams, as past experiences and strategies all came into play. Facing eating, house of cards and a snooker challenge, Team White jumped into the lead in the 2nd leg to win Simplot’s 3rd Melbourne Amazing Race ®.

Plenary Group Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Plenary Group, established in 2004 as an independent public private partnership business, is an investor, developer and operator of public infrastructure over the long term.

Objectives
A fun and challenging team building activity as part of a conference to get them to see the sights of Melbourne.

Result
With at least half of the participants from interstate, the event ensured all the teams got to visit some of Melbourne’s iconic landmarks. Starting from the lovely newly renovated South Wharf, teams got to visit Queen Victoria Market, QV, Immigration Museum and many of the lovely parks and gardens within Melbourne while tackling many fun challenges. Team ‘Vandelay Industries’ crossed the finish line in a very quick time outside the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to win the event!

ESSSuper City Survivor
  ESSSuper is one of Australia's biggest super funds; a dedicated super fund for emergency services and Victorian government employees.

Objectives
After a sensational 4 day event last year, the group at ESSSuper were again looking for a fun team event for 2010.

Result
After having tried their skills at City Challenge last year, the team at ESSSuper thought they might try to outwit, outplay and outlast their fellow colleagues in City Survivor. Spanning 4 days at an indoor venue, tribes from all areas of the business competed against one another with only one ultimate goal; to walk away with the most gold coins after 4 days of competition. The Green Hulks on day 3 proved to be too strong dominating all the other tribes with an impressive total to be the ultimate survivors!

Toll Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Toll is the Asian region's leading provider of integrated logistics services.

Objectives
A team building event to get people out and about before the afternoon conference session.

Result
Three hours of challenges were provided to the team from Toll that were designed to push them to think fast and to overcome their fears. The main highlight was a visit to the Eureka Tower Skydeck and a ride on "The Edge" while at the same time completing an observational challenge. Finishing back at Etihad Stadium, Team Green won the Melbourne Amazing Race ® due to having slighly better navigation skills through the streets of Melbourne.

General Mills Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  General Mills Australia & New Zealand is a growing consumer food business and is responsible for brands such as Betty Crocker, Latina, Croissant King and Frescarini.

Objectives
A fun team building day to reward their staff.

Result
A sensational 2 hour Melbourne Amazing Race ® was put on for the group from General Mills which got everyone all working together. Starting out at Federation Square on a beautiful Autumn’s afternoon, teams solved cryptic clues and dashed across the CBD facing a series of mental and fun team building challenges. Finishing up at the Transit Lounge, teams were awarded their trophies before a useful debrief on their day’s achievement.

Season 16 of The Amazing Race on Channel 7
  Season 16 of The Amazing Race is now on at 9:30pm on Channel 7 on Thursday nights.

The race includes Miss South Carolina, two detectives from Rhode Island, a father/daughter team from California, a newly dating couple, two moms who are also attorneys, brothers who are also cowboys, high school married sweethearts, a 71yo Grandmother who is a personal trainer and her granddaughter, an actress and voice over artist, two brothers, and a married Asian-American couple from california. The newly-dating pair are former Big Brother contestants. The teams will start in Los Angeles and will cover nearly 40,000 miles across five continents and eight countries.


Buckley Park Secondary College Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Buckley Park Secondary College is a medium sized, public secondary school located in Essendon, Victoria. It has around 800 students from year 7 to 12. Its motto, 'Build Your Wings', is featured on every students' uniform.

Objectives
A fun event that got year 10 students out and about exploring the beautiful city of Melbourne.

Result
A 2 hour Melbourne Amazing Race ® was specifically designed for the students that tested everything from their arithmetic to problem solving skills. Surprisingly, no students got lost and all teams were very competitive by the time they reached Ed Hardy Bowling. Being able to score a strike very quickly, Team Blue jumped into the lead and never looked back to win the event.

Contexx Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Contexx is a forward-thinking construction company driven by experienced leadership and a team of dynamic people. Put simply: it is a small, privately owned business that specialises in large-scale projects.

Objectives
Team builidng for the recent graduates to get to know each other better.

Result
Starting from Fawkner Park, teams travelled into the city by tram for nine challenges that put them under pressure to think quickly and to act decisively. After the first couple of challenges, the pace picked up and teams started communicating more effectively and completing the challenges quickly so that in the end, all teams were standing on the finish mat at Federation Square in a near record time!

Monash University Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Monash University ICT Shared Services program implements a Shared Services Model across Monash University's Information Technology Services.

Objectives
Being a new team, the program wanted a team building event that focused on working together while testing values and beliefs.

Result
After finishing lunch, teams were faced with a challenging Melbourne Amazing Race ® that took them on an adventure through the streets of Melbourne, Queen Victoria Market and then Eureka Tower Skydeck for their 1st pitstop. With challenges requiring teamwork and trust, Team Orange were consistently dominant despite the light rain that greeted teams in the 2nd leg of the race. Finishing up at Federation Square, everyone reflected on how the event brought everyone closer together in a fun and energising way!

Lockwood Partners City Survivor
  Lockwood Partners are one of the largest and fastest growing accounting firms in Echuca/Moama, offering Accounting, Business and IT services.

Objectives
Looking for a team building event that was not only fun, but got everyone to work together.

Result
Coming into Melbourne specially for their team building event, Uplift Events had to ensure the event was well worth the long bus trip. As the team from Lockwood Partners got off the bus, they were given their bandanas and split into their 6 tribes for City Survivor. Right from the start, all teams were fiercely competitive, with everyone taking all of the challenges very seriously. Tribe, "Merry’s Ferrals", in the end showed great strategy and team work to not only win the title of Survivor, but also the bragging rights that came with it.

MLC Great Melbourne Pursuit
  MLC is the wealth management division of the National Australia Bank (NAB) and provides investment, superannuation, insurance and private wealth solutions to corporate and institutional customers.

Objectives
Team builidng and to get out of the building where their conference was being held in Kalorama.

Result
A specially tailored Great Melbourne Pursuit was implemented around the Mt Dandenong area for the team from MLC. Teams had to rely on their maps and planning skills to find all the locations where they either had to complete a challenge or find a control punch. Finishing up at the Pig & Whistle Tavern, all teams commented on how much fun the event was and how much better they knew the Mt Dandenong area!

April 2010 - Melbourne Vixens Great Melbourne Pursuit
  On the 28th March 2010, Uplift Events Great Melbourne Pursuit was featured in a segment on One HD during the Melbourne Vixen's netball telecast against the Queensland Firebirds. Bianca Chatfield & Kath Knott, in team red, competed against Julie Corletto & Tegan Cadwell, in team blue, in a race around Melbourne completing various challenges such as Rap Jumping at Urban Central, bowling at Ed Hardy Bowling and The Edge at Eureka Tower Skydeck. Wangaratta Magpies Netball and Football Club Great Melbourne Pursuit
  The Wangaratta Magpies Netball and Football Club compete in the SS&A Ovens and Murray Football and Netball League.

Objectives
After participating in one of Uplift Events' public events, the coach of the Wangaratta Magpies Netball Club asked Uplift Events to design an event for to promote team building as part of their pre-season.

Result
A 3.5 hour Great Melbourne Pursuit was designed to test their teamwork, communication and problem solving. Teams also had to face their fears through a disgusting eating challenge and Rap jumping off a six storey building! All teams completed the challenges well but it was 'The Squares' team which completed all the stages the fastest with no penalties and declared the winners.

Hall & Wilcox Lawyers City Survivor
  Hall & Wilcox is a full-service commercial firm that is widely recognised as one of Melbourne's leading law firms.

Objectives
After 2 successful events with Uplift Events last year, the team at Hall & Wilcox Lawyers turned to Uplift Events again in 2010 for something new and exciting.

Result
Uplift Events got everyone at Hall & Wilcox Lawyers to Outwit, Outplay and Outlast their fellow work colleagues in this urban version of Survivor. Starting straight after work near their office, seven tribes battled head to head in a series of reward and immunity challenges that tested everything from communication, teamwork through to problem solving and memorising. In the end tribe ‘Black Attack’ had the key that mattered and opened the treasure chest to receive the 15 bonus gold coins to win the event!

March 2010 New Event - Paparazzi
  Uplift Events’ latest team building event Paparazzi has arrived and promises to be a fun and energising event where you and your team take on the role of an Uplift Events’ paparazzi photographer for the day. Armed with a camera, clues and a map you and your team will make your way all over the city to snap up key photos of celebrities, locations and your team to try and earn as much money (points) as possible for each of the photographs taken. The only issue is that not all these locations are easy to find, and they have been scattered and hidden to prevent the paparazzi finding them. Time is of the essence, and the team that delivers the most paparazzi photos at end of the day will win the title of chief paparazzi!

Lion Nathan National Foods Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Lion Nathan National Foods is Australasia's leading food and beverages company - bringing together two great businesses and many of Australia and New Zealand’s household names.

Objectives
An event to end the first day of their 3 day leadership workshop, putting their theory into practise.

Result
A tailored Melbourne Amazing Race ® organised for the 60 delegates who were from all parts of Australia. With team work high on the agenda, the event had to encompass the value of achieving your personal best as individuals and as a team. Teams visited Eureka Tower Skydeck, took part in a group ten pin bowling challenge and faced a series of mental challenges designed to build strong trusting relationships amongst the group. Finishing up at Terra Rossa restaurant, team Orange dominated the event to take 1st place!

Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement City Survivor
  The Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement is an independent, not for profit organisation and is the largest provider of grief and bereavement education in Australia.

Objectives
A fun team building event that catered for all fitness levels that would make participants work together and communicate with each other.

Result
Three teams experienced 7 Survivor Reward and Immunity challenges over 3 hours at Flagstaff Gardens. Strategies were discussed amongst teams before commencing each challenge. Each challenge tested the decision making, strategies, communication, problem solving and lateral thinking of each team. In the end, it was team Green (the Combat Wombats) who won City Survivor despite not being the fittest team.

Good Samaritan Primary School Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Good Samaritan Primary School is one of the largest primary schools in Melbourne catering for the expanding area of Roxburgh Park.

Objectives
A team building event for the teachers that would get them working together out of the school environment.

Result
Almost 60 teachers participated in a Melbourne Amazing Race ® that tested their knowledge of Melbourne and how well they were able to work together. Through the streets of Melbourne, visiting landmarks such as Queen Victoria Market, City Square, Federation Square and the GPO, teams completed various challenges that got them discussing, thinking and listening to each other. A close finish resulted in Team Black winning the Melbourne Amazing Race ® by one minute from Team Yellow.

Objectives
A fun team building event that would make teams think outside the square and work on their lateral thinking.

Result
As teams finished their conference and walked over to Fitzroy Gardens, a fun and energising Great Melbourne Pursuit was awaiting them. Taking them on an exciting urban adventure race around Melbourne, 5 teams had to tackle their co-ordination skills with bike riding and tennis, and then enjoyed the views of Melbourne at the top of the Eureka Tower Skydeck. It was then down to the serious part of the race where teams had to tackle a series of mental challenges before finishing back up at Fitzroy Gardens. A hugely successful event, with the client organiser even stating that it was the “BEST team building event I’ve ever experienced”.

Exego City Challenge
  The Exego Group has four main Business Units with the most well-known being Repco which supplies the automotive aftermarket through both retail and trade channels.

Objectives
A team building event close to the office with both physical and mental challenges.

Result
At the Waverley Netball Centre, the team from Exego completed 6 fun challenges that were a combination of mental problem solving and physical activity that suited all fitness levels. Teams experienced what it was like to be blindfolded and only verbally guided by team members as well as finding out how well their memory worked while under pressure. Overall a great day was had by all, finishing with a huge round of applause for all teams for doing so well at the challenges.

Kraft Foods Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Kraft Foods philosophy is to make delicious foods you can feel good about. Whether watching your weight or preparing to celebrate, grabbing a quick bite or sitting down to family night, Kraft Foods pour their hearts into creating foods that are wholesome and delicious.

Objectives
A team building event for the afternoon session of their conference.

Result
The team from Kraft Foods showed that not only were they quick at completing challenges and fast in getting to locations but that they were also cunning, with intelligent use of their iphones to help them with one particular internet challenge. With visits to Charltons for some snooker to testing puzzles at QV Square, the same three teams jostled for the lead throughout the race. With a bit of luck, team Blue narrowly won the Melbourne Amazing Race ® in a very fast time.

Season 20 of Survivor on Channel 9
  In the 10th year anniversary of Survivor, the 20th season of the popular reality TV series will be one of the best yet with the greatest players of the game returning for Heroes vs. Villains. See the likes of Colby, Stephanie, Rupert, James, JT and Amanda go up against Villains in Evil Russell, Boston Rob, Coach and the cunning Parvati. Based in Samoa, this season will see past alliances, strategies and some popular team based challenges from previous seasons all come in into play! Who will win the title of ultimate Survivor against the best players of the game? Tune into Channel 9, starting Tuesday March 9th at 8.40pm to find out.


Diana Ferrari Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Diana Ferrari is one of Australia’s most recognized and much loved brands covering footwear, apparel, handbags and accessories.

Objectives
A fun team building event that would also be a surprise.

Result
The loudest and most enthusiastic group for 2010 started from Gosch's paddock for their 4 hour event. Armed with their maps, water and sense of adventure, 10 teams set off on 9 challenges that tested their teamwork and communication with each other. Throughout the 2nd leg of the race, team White showed superior decision making and navigation skills to finish as team number one at the final pitstop.

Alcon Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  With a team of over 15,000 dedicated employees worldwide, Alcon develops, manufactures, and distributes hundreds of eye care products in more than 180 countries.

Objectives
As part of their 5 day conference, the sales and marketing team were looking for a fun and competitive event to break up their week while seeing the sights of Melbourne.

Result
A very warm Melbourne Summer’s day greeted the sales and marketing team who were mainly from overseas and interstate. Despite minimal knowledge of Melbourne, teams were fiercely competitive throughout the whole race, often running to each checkpoint to stay ahead of their competitors. The hot weather didn’t deter the 10 teams either from making this one of the competitive and fun events of 2010! Team Grey jumped to the lead and never looked back to win the event.

February 2010 - Melbourne City Romp
City Romp
Part treasure hunt, part ‘Amazing Race’, part puzzle – the Melbourne City Romp is a charity fundraising event like no other!

Armed with a map, clue sheet and mobile phone, teams of 2-6 Rompers attempt to solve challenges at Checkpoints located at iconic venues and quirky locations across Melbourne.

Enter a team in one of the four categories; family and friends, schools, universities or corporates - and share a great day out, discovering aspects of Melbourne you never knew existed. Up to 20,000 Rompers from all over Australia are expected to take part!

All fundraising by teams will assist Burnet in its fight against The ‘Big Three’: HIV, TB and malaria, some of the world’s worst infectious diseases which cause the death of seven million people each year.

Bwin Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Bwin is Europe's biggest online betting and gaming site, offering exciting live sports betting odds, Online Poker, Casino and Games.

Objectives
A fun competitive event to allow their clients competing in the Aussie Millions Poker Tournament to discover Melbourne.

Result
A 36 degree day greeted the players at Batman park as the teams and camera crew were gearing up for the big race. Being poker players, the event proved to be every bit as competitive as their poker tournament. The language barrier and being in a new country did not stop the teams from posting very quick times as they raced from one checkpoint to the next. In the end it was team Orange that dominated the other teams to win the event ALL IN! Have a read of the event at the Bwin website on their poker blog.

Boost Juice Melbourne Amazing Race ®
  Boost Juice is now an extremely successful franchise business and the fastest growing juice bar chain in Australia.

Objectives
A fun day out to work on team building for the staff of three of the Boost Juice stores. As some of the staff had participated before in a Melbourne Amazing Race ®, all challenges and locations had to be different from the previous event.

Result
An extremely competitive group of 36 ran, walked and caught trams through the streets of Melbourne in a very hectic race. Teams were organised according to who they would work with the most at each store. This meant that through each of the physical and mental challenges, all teams had to co-operate and communicate with each other effectively to complete each challenge as quickly as possible. In the end, Team Dark Blue won through sheer determination and better navigation. Franchise owner, David commented that after the event, "The team at all the stores have become closer and relationships with staff from other stores have developed which is always a positive".
